  • HDL (high density lipoprotein, good cholesterol).

LDL is sticky and thick. If it is high, then it accumulates on the walls of blood vessels and arteries. It hinders the flow of blood. An increase in cholesterol is harmful to health. It can lead to serious problems like heart attack, high BP and obesity. 

A blood test called lipid profile is done to check for cholesterol. Total cholesterol in a healthy person’s body should be less than 200 mg/dl, HDL more than 60 mg/dl and LDL less than 100 mg/dl.

Ayurveda says cholesterol is produced due to excess Kapha in the body.

The main reason for increasing cholesterol is an unbalanced diet and a poor lifestyle. At the same time, there are other reasons as well. 

Everyone should have knowledge about signs of increasing Cholesterol. If you see any of them, then you should be alert. Start the home remedies after consulting your doctor. Before talking about Home Remedies for Cholesterol, let us first know about the reasons for increasing cholesterol:

Unbalanced Diet 

Saturated fat is found in foods that have high cholesterol and fat. Reduce the intake of high-fat foods like red fatty meat, butter, cheese, cake, ghee etc. It is the most effective way to reduce cholesterol.

Hereditary cause

Allicin, an enzyme found in garlic, is helpful in reducing LDL cholesterol. According to research regular intake of garlic can reduce LDL cholesterol levels by 10%. Apart from this, it also controls high blood pressure. Two buds of garlic daily and eating it after peeling is the best home remedy.

Mustard Oil Helps to Reduce Cholesterol Level

In the last few years people have left using mustard oil. They have started using many other types of ghee, refined oil etc. These oils also give rise to cholesterol. 

Mustard oil also contains very high levels of monounsaturated fat. It also had polyunsaturated fatty acids. These are very very beneficial for health. If you have cholesterol problems, always use mustard oil.

Amla-Aloe Vera is one of the best Home Remedies for Cholesterol

Cholesterol levels can be reduced by regular intake of Aloe Vera and Amla. Mix one teaspoon of Amla powder or juice in the same amount of Aloe Vera juice. Have it on an empty stomach every morning. Amla has a high amount of vitamin C. It is very important in reducing and controlling cholesterol.

Raisin Helps to Treat Cholesterol

Soak 10 to 15 raisins and 5 to 7 almonds in water at night. Eat them both on an empty stomach in the morning. It also helps in controlling cholesterol. Remember that if you have diabetes, do not consume raisins.

Vitamin C Helps to Reduce Cholesterol Level

All the fruits which contain vitamin-C and citric acid are very beneficial

Bark of Arjun Good for Reducing Cholesterol

The bark of Arjuna tree is used in the treatment of many types of diseases. You will find Arjun’s bark easily in the market at the grocery store.

Take a little bark of Arjun and pour it in a glass of water and heat this water. Heat it until the water boils to half. Now let it cool down, drink this decoction like tea. It is an effective home remedy to reduce cholesterol.
